Tourmaline is fairly durable gemstone with a hardness of 7.0-7.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. Tourmaline gemstones can be cut into many shapes and sizes, often as faceted gems, cabochons, polished crystal slices or mineral specimens. Cutters often fashion tourmalines as long rectangles.
